Styloz Webpage FAQ
Paint Properties
Q: Can I mix Styloz Paint?
A: Yes! You can freely create your own colors using Styloz Paint. A small plastic mixing cup will be included in all purchases from our website or from our Indonesian online marketplaces.
Q: Can I wash off Styloz Paint from items that have been painted?
A: After letting the paint completely dry for 1 to 2 days after application, Styloz Paint will not wash off from the items you have painted. We made sure Styloz Paint can withstand common household cleaners such as detergent, shoe cleaners, and soap; Styloz Paint can also withstand common cleaning methods such as shoe brushes and warm water. You do not need to worry about losing your work when you must wash the items you have painted.
Q: How long does Styloz Paint last on painted items?
A: We cannot give you an exact number of years due to the fact that Styloz is a new product. However, we can confidently say Styloz Paint will last as long as other fabric and leather paints in the market. The very first pair of shoes that we painted back in 2019 is still like it has just been painted until today despite being used for heavy sport activities. We also tested Styloz Paint in our UV and weather test machine that exposes it to extreme UV and weather exposure over a long period of time during the development process, to ensure it will be able to withstand harsh conditions.
Q: Will painted items lose their elasticity?
A: We formulated Styloz Paint to maintain the original elasticity of painted materials as good as possible. The difference should be unnoticeable in common shoes materials: Leather, synthetic leather, and canvas.
Q: How much paint do I need for a pair of shoes?
A: The amount of paint needed varies greatly depending on the type of your work and the material you are painting. Canvas absorbs more paint than leather. Repainting or recoloring will need a lot of paints, while customization works will use less paint. Our in-house research found that our 30mL bottle is usually enough for a pair of canvas or leather shoes.
Q: How long does it take for Styloz Paint to dry?
A: Styloz Paint generally takes around 30 minutes for it to be dry to touch or to add another layer. This process can be accelerated using hot guns. Let painted items air dry for a day to completely dry the paint.
Q: Does Styloz Paint expire?
A: Styloz Paint lasts up to 4 years when stored in the dark and under room temperature. Do not dip wet brushes into the container to prevent bacteria from growing in the paint. Always pour Styloz paint into a separate container before using it.
Q: Can I make Styloz Paint more matte?
A: Yes. Mix up to 10% of Styloz Duller into Styloz Paint to create a matte paint. Do not add more than the suggested ratio, it will cause a hazy finish. To get a matte finish, use Styloz Matte Finisher.
Q: If I use Styloz Matte Finisher over Styloz Paint that has been mixed with Styloz Duller, will it become more matte?
A: No, it will become glossier. Styloz Paint that has been mixed with Styloz Duller is more matte than Styloz Matte Finisher.
Q: Why is my Styloz Glow in the Dark not glowing?
A: Styloz Glow in the Dark will only work if the painted surface has been ‘charged’ with sunlight for around 30 minutes. Glow in the Dark paint particles work like a battery, they need to be ‘charged’ periodically using sunlight.
Q: Does Styloz Paint crack?
A: No. Styloz Paint was formulated to be elastic. We did extreme tests in our lab to ensure Styloz Paint does not crack under pressure. Please ensure you used Styloz Preparer and Deglazer on leather and synthetic leather material before painting to prevent cracking. We also recommend painting in thin layers, since thicker coatings are more prone to cracks no matter how elastic they are.
Q: Is Styloz Paint water-based or oil-based?
A: Styloz Paint is water-based. Do not mix with paint thinners meant for oil-based paints.
Q: Can I dilute Styloz Paint with water?
A: Yes, though it will certainly weaken its properties such as color strength and opacity, so only use water if you desire a more transparent finish. If you wish to retain those properties, dilute with Styloz Diluent.
Q: What is the difference between Styloz Paint’s Helios Gold under Special Color and Styloz Paint’s Midas Gold?
A: Midas Gold was made using a special pearlescent pigment that will give you a brighter, more reflective or shiny golden finish compared to Helios Gold. The finish will look like a finer and softer golden glitter. Helios Gold is more subtle – there will not be any ‘golden blings’. Both are excellent choices of gold colors depending on your taste and needs!
How to Use Styloz Paint & Its Application
Q: What types of material can be painted using Styloz Paint?
A: Styloz Paint can be applied on various common fabric and leather materials used on clothing products, such as leather, denim, mesh, suede, cotton, synthetic leather, and canvas.
Q: Can I paint soles using Styloz Paint?
A: No, Styloz Paint was not designed to be used on soles. Like on midsoles, Styloz Paint will still adhere to soles, but the constant friction between the soles and the ground will peel off the paint overtime.
Q: Can I paint a shoe’s midsole using Styloz Paint?
A: Styloz Paint will adhere to midsoles well, but it will have reduced durability due to midsoles’ non-porous surface. We recommend using the Leather Preparer and Deglazer on the midsoles first before applying between two to three layers of Styloz Finishers above the painted midsoles to improve durability. Do not use shoes with painted midsoles for heavy activities such as sports.
Q: Can I apply Styloz Paint with an airbrush?
A: Absolutely. Mix Styloz Paint with up to 20% Styloz Diluent and mix thoroughly before pouring it into your airbrush to prevent clogging.
Q: What is the Styloz Primer used for?
A: The main purpose of Styloz Primer is to close-up the highly absorbent surface of canvas and cotton. We noticed that artists who test our products on canvas shoes usually apply a layer of white paint as a ‘root first layer’ to close the surface. This allows them to have a better paint dispersion on the following layers. Another artist who airbrushes cotton T-shirts also apply a white paint as a layer to prevent the paint from seeping through the T-shirt.
So, we created a pigment-free Styloz that was designed to replace the more expensive white paint. Styloz Primer allows you to have a better paint dispersion and prevents paint seeping through thin cotton materials to some extent for a more economical price, while still retaining the material’s flexibility.
Q: How do I paint a leather item using Styloz Paint?
A: Clean the item that you want to paint first – make sure it is free of dirt, dust, and any other things that may hinder the paint’s adhesion. Pour Styloz Leather Preparer and Deglazer onto a piece of cloth, then rub the item thoroughly. Now the item is ready to be painted. Apply thin, even layers of Styloz Paint. Let each layer air-dry for 15 to 30 minutes before applying another layer. You can accelerate the drying process using a heat gun. Apply more layers until the desired opacity is achieved. Full opacity is usually achieved after 3 to 4 layers depending on the material.
Q: How do I paint a canvas item using Styloz Paint?
A: Clean the item that you want to paint first – make sure it is free of dirt, dust, and any other things that may hinder the paint’s adhesion. You can either directly apply thin, even layers of Styloz Paint on the canvas afterwards, or you can apply a layer of Styloz Primer on the item before using Styloz Paint to get a better paint dispersion. You can also use a white Styloz Paint as the first layer. Let each layer air-dry for 15 to 30 minutes before applying another layer. You can accelerate the drying process using a heat gun. Apply more layers until the desired opacity is achieved. Full opacity is usually achieved after 3 to 4 layers depending on the material.
Q: Can I paint shoelaces using Styloz Paint?
A: Yes! For recoloring shoelaces, put the shoelaces in a plastic bag, then pour Styloz Paint into it. Close the plastic bag then press the paint onto the shoelaces thoroughly. A video is available on our YouTube channel to show you the process. You can also directly apply Styloz Paint on the shoelaces using a paintbrush or an airbrush.
Q: How do I prevent brushmarks?
A: Apply thin, even layers of paint. Do not brush with an excessive amount of paint on your paintbrush. Brushmarks should not be visible once you have reached full opacity. For transparent Styloz Paints such as our Chameleon series, Photochromic, and our Glow in the Dark series, we recommend using an airbrush to completely prevent brushmarks.
Q: Can I use Styloz Paint to cover-up or prevent bent and cracked leather? Usually on the upper part of the toe joints, very common in leather shoes.
A: Styloz Paint can certainly provide a temporary cover-up on it, but it will not protect the shoes from further damage. Painted leather shoes will still be vulnerable to upper part damage caused by the toe joints. Styloz Paint retains the original flexibility of the painted material, it does not add additional flexibility that allows leather to become more tolerant towards frequent bending.

Q: Why are your prices in USD cheaper than your prices in Indonesian online marketplaces (Tokopedia, Shopee, and Lazada) when converted to IDR?
A: First, all Indonesian online marketplaces charge their sellers some service charge, so we have to increase our prices in those marketplaces.
Second, we noticed that international shipping cost can be extremely expensive. International customers also still have to pay for customs clearance and other taxes.
Third, we have to pay taxes that incurred from selling products to international customers. This further increases the price for each international order.
Fourth, Indonesian customers already has the benefit of free shipping cost from their chosen online marketplace.
So, we decided to subsidize some of the cost by lowering the prices for each item to stay competitive in the international market. Indonesian customers cannot purchase through our website, they will have to purchase through the Indonesian online marketplace.
